With the ground shaking and space fans cheering as the countdown clock hit zero, the Europa Clipper spacecraft took flight at 12:06 p.m. EDT Monday from Cape Canaveral. The spacecraft will travel for nearly six years, covering 1.8 billion miles before it begins to slow down and match Jupiter's orbit, according to the timeline.

Volusia County to decide whether to fund repairs for beach access ramps

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – Leaders in Volusia County are set to meet Tuesday to approve a $1 million project to help rebuild several beach walkovers.

News 6 spoke to Jessica Fentress with the Volusia County Costal Division, who explained nearly a dozen walkovers will need repairs following Hurricanes Ian and Nicole.

Embry-Riddle ROTC hosts 9/11 stair climb to honor first responders

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – ROTC cadets from Embry-Riddle University and other Volusia County colleges participated in a 2,100-step memorial stair climb in honor of the first responders who lost their lives during the Sept. 11 attacks.

“Having the police officers, having the firefighters in my family, it was always a somber day but a day that we had to hold strong and remember so we then can continue to have events like this,” said Cadet Lt. Colonel Shane McCutcheon, U.S. Army.

UCFPD and county police presence increases at UCF football games and tailgates

With UCF moving to the Big 12 Conference, it not only means more recognition for its athletics and an increase in attendance for tailgating and football viewing, but it also means more coverage from UCFPD and local departments.

“UCFPD plans to staff every game and tailgate as if the games had sold out seats,” UCFPD officer Roman Watkins said. "With that type of standard in place for the number of officers, they have eyes all across campus.”
